Condolence From: Larry Bertsch
Condolence: I was sad to hear about Johns passing in June. I got to known John about 20 years ago during one of the local rock clubs field trips. As the years went by, I got to know John through many field trips to collect rocks and especially datolites. We had many adventures collecting rocks by four wheeler and even by boat off the point. In most cases he brought his trusty dog Jake with him.

John was always generous with his time and knowledge about the Keweenaw, his incredible depth of knowledge about mineral collecting and the mines of the copper country. I always learned new things from John even though I have been collecting up here for 25 years. He always had great stories to tell.

I also got to know Esther as well over the years too. She and john were always generous and happy to have you over for a visit or a meal.

My prayers go out to his family and especially Esther. John will be greatly missed

Condolence From: Patti Graves-Wesolosky
Condolence: My daughter and I met John and Esther several years ago. The rest of my immediate family met them this past September. Our only regret is that we had not known John or Esther for many many years prior.

John was one of nicest men I have ever had the pleasure to spend time with. The first thing I noticed was his glorious smile (especially when looking at Esther) and also the glint of deviousness as he was preparing to tell a joke or story.

John, I will miss your "Bud Lite"; hot dogs on the beach or in your yard; the pride you shared while showing us (especially Rob) your incredible pole barn; "Love Handles"; and every story I ever heard from you.
Your incredible knowledge of the Upper Peninsula, Keweenaw County, and of course rocks & minerals is not to be equaled.

Esther- Our love goes out to you. God Bless you and God Bless John Perona. I hope the folks in heaven are ready for his infectious humor and love of life. As for us, we will miss you forever.

Condolence From: Cynthia and Donald Kelman
Condolence: Cindy and I were deeply saddened to hear of John's illness and passing, while we were travelling recently in Virginia. We had intended to visit again with John, who has been one of our favorite people over many years that we have known him, when we returned for our annual Keweenaw Week visit.
John was certainly one of the best collectors, especially of some of the uncommon and important Keweenaw materials, and our collection reflects his influence, with materials we have obtained from him over many years. Above all, he was just a very nice person, who made the day better, whenever we met with him.
Our sincere sympathy goes out to Esther and his family. The Keweenaw community has lost one of the great ones!

Condolence From: Alan and Wendy Wilson
Condolence: We just met John a few years ago, but he embraced us like family. John was the kind of person that you wished you had known longer, had the opportunity to spend more time with, and share in his vast knowledge and experiences. Esther, we will always cherish the evenings spent at your home enjoying great music, wonderful company and good conversation. John will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Tammy & Gene and your family. All our love, Alan and Wendy.

Condolence From: David/Dayna Carlson
Condolence: David and I were so sorry to hear of John's passing. We were privileged to meet him last September when we came home for a vacation. We immediately fell in love with him.
We know he will be missed by so many. Our love and prayers go out to the family and especially to "his most significant other", David's sister Esther.
