Obituary for John Joseph Walters

August 11, 2016 Laurium

John “Jack” Walters, 85, a resident of Laurium passed away on Thursday August 11, 2016 at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Laurium.

He was born on November 7, 1930 in Kearsarge a son of the late Arnold and Esther (Korhonen) Walters.

He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Calumet with the class of 1948.

Jack was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army in Germany and Austria from 1948 to 1952. While serving in Germany he was a DJ for the Armed Forces Radio.

Jack was employed at Laverdiere Motors in Lake Linden, Lakeland Motors in Calumet and served as the Service Manager at Northern Auto for 35 years until his retirement in 1992.

On October 18, 1980 he was united in marriage to Wanda (Hilden) Harvey.

Jack enjoyed wood working and was very skilled at his wood working craft.

He was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Laurium where he served as Deacon, Trustee and Vice President of the Church Council. He also served as a volunteer at the Northern Lights Hospice.

Preceding him in death were 2 infant siblings, a brother Delmar “Bud”, Daughter Donna and his first wife Sandra Costelic.

Brothers: Robert (Jean) Walters of Texas and Donald Walters of California

10 Grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren

Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held on August 24, 2016 at 11:00 AM in St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Laurium with Pastor Aaron Gehrke to officiate.
Friends may call at the church from 10-11:00 AM.
