Obituary for William Earl Apger

William Earl Apger, age 85, of Calumet passed away on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Laurium.
He was born on February 12, 1933 to Earl and Ruth (Holloway) Apger in Dearborn, Michigan.
He attended local schools graduating in 1951.
After high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force serving in the Korean War.
He was united in marriage to Twila Harden on July 12, 1958 in Wayne County.
He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Houghton.
He was also a member of the Houghton County Veterans Association.
William worked for many years as a mechanic for Don Lucas Imports in Chassell. He also worked for L’Anse Transit Authority as a mechanic and bus driver. He went on to work for BHK Head Start as a bus driver for many years until his retirement. William & Twila had a shelter & foster home for many years. They took in many foster children and raised them and adopted some as well.
William was a very hard working and giving person. In his free time he loved to ride and to give rides to his family on his motorcycle.
Preceding him in death were his parents, sons; William Gary Apger, Carl “Butch” Chapin, and William “Skip” Chapin, and also brother in law Ken Irvine.

And numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet at 11:00 AM on Friday June 29, 2018 with Pastor Sean Brizendine to officiate.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to service starting at 10:00 AM until the time of service.
Burial will follow at the Calvary Cemetery in Ahmeek with the Copper Country Veterans Association performing.
