Obituary for Stephen Zagar

Stephen Zagar 84, a resident of Portage Pointe and former resident of the Bluffs and Atlantic Mine passed away on Monday June 9, 2008.

He was born in Painesdale on January 27, 1924 a son of Slavko and Mary Zagar, and attended Jeffers High School.

Stephen was a US Army Veteran, having served during WWII.

He married Gertrude Jenkins in Painesdale on March 10, 1945. They moved to Pontiac, MI where Steve worked for General Motors, retiring in 1985 after 31½ years. They regularly vacationed in the Twin Lakes area where they enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting with their dog “Rebel.” Gertrude preceded him in death on September 30, 1991. Steve moved to Atlantic Mine in 1994

Steve loved music and dancing and played the harmonica, guitar, and accordion.

He was preceded in death be his parents, wife Gertrude, brothers John and Anton, sisters Ann Hatala, Frances Rakich, and Margaret Slomka.

He is survived by brothers Slavko “Toot” ( Faye) Zagar of North Carolina
Joseph (Doreen) Zagar of L’Anse

Sisters Katherine “Dolly” Hawkins of California
Rose Hatala of Mohawk
Lorraine Zagar of Ahmeek

Sister in law Agnes Zagar of Painesdale

Several nieces and nephews.

A private funeral service will be held at Erickson-Crowley Funeral Home in Calumet. with Pastor Ken Toth to officiate.

Burial will be in Hillview Memorial Garden Cemetery in Waterford, MI
