Mervin J. (Bud) Voelker,85, a resident of Allouez Street Florida Location passed away early Monday morning December 23, 2002 at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility where he was a patient for the past 10 days.
He was born on December 27, 1916 in Franklin Mine a son of the late Christian & Anna Voelker.
He attended the Hancock High School graduating with the class 1936 he later attended MTU receiving his B.S. in mining engineering in 1949 and received his masters in mining engineering from Rapid City School of Mines in Rapid City South Dakota in 1953.
In 1939 he was employed at United Verde Mine in Jerome, Arizona; in 1944 at the New Cornelia Mine in Ajo, Arizona; in 1947 at the Seneca Mine and he attended Michigan Tech, in 1949 at the Homestake Mining Co. in Lead, South Dakota, in 1953 at the U.S. Gypsum Co. Fort Dodge, Iowa & Farnams, Mass, in 1961 at the White Pine Copper Co., in 1966 at the McKinley Mine J&L McKinley, Minn., in 1971 in Hibbing Taconite Co. in Hibbing, Minn.
In 1976 he retired to his garden & cottage on Lake Shore Drive
On July 25, 1939 he was married to the former Ann Korvanen at the Mohawk United Methodist church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers: Christian, Carl & Lawrence
& 1 sister: Anna
He was a member of: the Laurium United Methodist Church

Funeral Services will be held on Friday December 27, 2002 at 11:00 AM in the Erickson-Crowley Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert White to officiate.
Friends may call at the Erickson-Crowley Funeral Home on Thursday December 26, 2002
from6-8 PM.
The Order of Eastern Star will have a service at 7:00 PM & the Copper Country Masonic Lodge will have a service at 7:30 PM
Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
