Obituary for Peter Vertin

Peter “Pete” Vertin, 87, of Laurium passed away peacefully early Sunday morning October 18, 2009 at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital.

He was born in Calumet on June 5, 1922, the son of Jacob and Frances Vertin.

He was a graduate of the Sacred Heart High School.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945. He completed glider and paratrooper training and was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division. He served in North Africa and the European Theatre, receiving 2 Bronze Stars.

On October 22, 1949 he was married to Rosemary Ruelle at Sacred Heart Church in Calumet.

Pete worked for Herman Hardware and was a long time bartender at the Bon Ton Café and numerous other establishments. He worked for over 35 years for the U.S. Postal Service as a fireman and then as a rural route carrier.

Peter was preceded in death by his parents, 7 brothers and sisters and
a son Robert “Bobby”.

He is survived by his wife Rosemary

As well as many numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday October 23, 2009 at 11:00 AM in the Sacred Heart Church with Fr. Abraham Mupparathara to officiate.

Friends may call at the Erickson Crowley Funeral Home in Calumet on
Thursday from 4-8 PM.

Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
