Obituary for Elmer Uitti

Lake Linden

Elmer (Mike) Uitti, 79, of Lake Linden was pronounced dead on arrival early Friday evening at the Calumet Public Hospital.

He was born on August 21, 1913 in Phillipsville a son of William and Lydia Uitti. His father William Uitti passed away when Mike was an infant. His mother, Lydia later married Isaac Tumperi and the family moved to Lake Linden to make their home. Mike attended the local schools of Lake Linden and Lake Linden High School. He worked in the Tumperi Family Grocery Store on 9th Street in Lake Linden.

During WWII he served with the US Army with 101th Airborne Division participating in the Normandy Invasion and the Battle of Budge, receiving the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

After his service he returned to the Great Lakes Area where he sailed on the Great Lakes for many years.

He also served with the Merchant Marines.

He lived in the Bootjack area for over 30 years and for the past 2 years had made his home in Lake Linden in the old family store.

He is a member of
Post #225, American Legion of Lansing
and a life member of the Copper Country Chapter #027 DAV

He is survived by:
