Obituary for Robert "Bob" Coppo

Robert "Bob" Coppo, 69, a resident of Centennial Heights died suddenly at his home on Thursday June 21, 2012.
He was born on March 14, 1943 in Laurium, a son of the late Edward and Effie (Mars) Coppo.
Bob graduated from Calumet High School with the class of 1961 and was a veteran having served in the U.S. Navy.
On February 2, 1973 he was married to Helen Theresa Grandchamp. She preceded him in death on February 28, 2011.
Bob was employed at Northern Hardwoods, which he jokingly referred to as "Northern Heartaches" for 28 years as a cut off saw operator. He retired in 2002.
Bob's favorite place to be in the summer was swimming at "Breakies" in McLain State Park. He loved spending time with his family-Sunday dinners, birthdays and holidays were his best times. He enjoyed hunting, walking and listening to old time country music. Bob was famous for giving his friends and family nick names; he rarely called people by their given names. He had a soft heart and a generous nature. He was a loving and devoted caregiver to his wife in her last years and befriended many of the patients and staff at Portage Health's Dialysis center. Bob was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will be deeply mourned by many, loved and missed, never forgotten.

As a kid, Bob was a member of the "Red Jacket Shaft Gang" and remained close to matriarch of Red Jacket Shaft Marion Talvensaari.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Theresa, sister Mary Rohrer, brothers Patrick and James and step-daughter Therese Bowen.
Surviving are his daughter Gail (Doug) Ploe of Houghton
Grandchildren: Trevor (Tina) Ploe of Harrison Township, Justin Ploe and Erin Ploe of Houghton.
Great-grandson Connor Ploe
Sister : Sandra (John) Massoglia of Houghton
2 step-sons: Garwin (Glenda) Pellosmaa of Troy, MI and Keith (Cindy) Pellosmaa of Berkley MI.
Step-Grandchildren: Kenneth (Michelle) Jones, Davin (Trish) Jones, Grant Pellosmaa, Megan (Mike) Goodemoot, Ashley Pellosmaa, Hollie Pellosmaa and Andy Pellosmaa.
Nieces and Nephews: Janet Pennington, Michael Costelic, James Rohrer, Susan Jukuri, Patti Massoglia, Mary Kay Massoglia, Tony, Patrick and Carrie Coppo

Friends may call at the Erickson Crowley Funeral Home in Calumet from 4-7 p.m. on June 26, 2012. The funeral service will be held at 7:00 with Deacon Art Stancher to officiate.

Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
