Obituary for Douglas "Doc" Yowell

Douglas “Doc” J. Yowell, 79, resident of Copper City, passed away on Saturday, March 23 at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Laurium.
He was born on May 30, 1933 in Copper City to the late Albert and Lyla (Kaura) Yowell.
He graduated from Calumet High School with the class of 1952.
Doc was preceded in death by his brother Lawrence Yowell.
He worked as a miner for the Calumet & Hecla and the White Pine mines and served with the U.S. Army in Korea during the Korean conflict. He was a volunteer with the Copper City Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Yowell of Copper City and children Robert and Linda Yowell of Washington, Debbie Harri (Peter Halley), Kathy (Mark) McEvers, Danise (Gerald) Jarvey, Dan (Mabel) Harri, Tammy (Mark) Kaifesh, as well as grandchildren Andrea, Karen, Brandon, Julie, Tom, Michael, Annie and Christopher.
Sister, Ellie Rautio of Copper City
He was a quiet and gentle man who enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting, as well as visiting with “the guys” at the Allouez BP. He was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church of Mohawk.

A graveside service will be held later in the spring in Calvary Cemetery in Ahmeek.
