Margaret Chmela, 84, of Lake Linden, died Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at Our Lady of Mercy Health and Rehab in Hubbell where she was a resident for the past five years.

She was born in Allouez, MI on March 10, 1928, daughter of Onnie and Esther (Erickson) Lahti and attended the local schools. Margaret moved to Detroit as a teenager and worked most of life for Sears Roebuck as a secretary. She retired in the early nineties and moved back to the area residing in Lake Linden.

She was a member of the Laurium Apostolic Lutheran Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents, a son, Raymond, a daughter, Patricia Krans, a brother, Warren and a sister, Dorothy Hill.

Surviving are a daughter, Bonnie Neibel, three brothers, Bill & June Lahti, Roy & Janet Lahti, Ralph & Luella Ryti, a granddaughter, Michelle & Mathew Zani, two grandsons, Eric, Tom &, two great granddaughters, Mya & Mena and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A private memorial service will be held at the Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet with Pastor Travis Seppala officiating. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery in Calumet. Condolences can be expressed to the family at www.petersonfuneralservices.com
