Obituary for Elsie Capello

January 17, 2014 Laurium

Elsie Pauline Capello, 87, a resident of Laurium passed away peacefully at Woodland Haven at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock.

She was born on August 31, 1926 in Mohawk a daughter of the late Peter and Lucy (Picchiottino) Negro. Elsie graduated from Calumet High School then proceeded to work in Detroit for a brief time. She returned to the Copper Country, married George Capello in 1952, and was blessed with four children.

She was a devout member of Sacred Heart Church in Calumet and was active in the Ladies Altar Society.

She loved word games, spending time with her friends (especially her friend Shirley) and being kind to the neighborhood Children. Her specialty was cooking the best Italian meals for her family.

She cherished her grandchildren and great grandchildren and always was an active part of their lives. Elsie’s kindness, generosity, and loving heart will be greatly missed by all. Her devout faith will place her in a special place in heaven.

Besides her parents Elsie was preceded in death by her loving husband George, infant daughter Katherine, siblings Ceil Theiler and Elmo Negro.

Surviving are children: George (Terri) Capello of Laurium, Gary (Debbie) Capello of Houghton and Nancy (Steve) Homola of Huntley, Illinois

Grandchildren: Kyle (Jennifer), Julie (Christopher), Korey, Mark, Peter, Sean, Tanya and Eric.

Great Grandchildren: Nathan and Cash

Sister: Margaret

Brother in law: Peter (Delores) Capello

Sister in law: Josephine Perkins

An aunt: Pauline Steck

Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all of her caregivers and especially Dr. Hafeman and the staff at Houghton County Medical Care Facility, Woodland Haven.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday January 22, 2014 at 10:00 AM in the Sacred Heart Church in Calumet with Fr. Paul Manderfield to officiate.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumetfrom 6-9 PM with a parish prayer service to be held at 8:45 on Tuesday.

Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
