Obituary for Esther Viola Johns (Lamppa)

Esther Viola Johns, 90, passed away peacefully at her home in Mayflower location, early morning Tuesday May 12th, 2015.

She was born on August 7th 1924 at her home in Traprock Valley to her parents, Yalmer and Amanda (Aittama) Lamppa. She attended Lake-Linden Hubbell High School and graduated in 1942. On June 20, 1942, she married the love of her life, the late Stanley Johns, on the family farm in Traprock Valley. He passed away on December 21st 1982.

Esther enjoyed making biscuits, pasties, apple pies and prune tarts and sharing them with her large circle of family and friends. She loved traveling, singing hymns, listening to big band music, and her favorite radio station was WMPL. She was an avid scrabble player with her Traprock lady friends. Esther loved the Lord and served Him well. She was a devoted housewife and mother, crocheting each one of her grandchildren an afghan.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Stanley, infant son Johnny, infant granddaughter Amber, 3 brothers Elmer, Carl and Ernest, 4 sisters Elma, Eleanor, Martha and Ella and son-in-law Art Petaja.

Esther is survived by : 3 sons Mike (Sande) Johns of Mayflower; Ken Johns of the Philippenes; and Dale (Linda) Johns of Mayflower,

7 daughters Sandra (Paul) Keranen of Lake Linden, Patsy ( Tim) Griffin of Traprock Valley, Lorna Beauchamp and David Beauchamp (father of their children) of Traprock Valley. Tina (Peter) Dupuis of Bootjack, Candy (Paul) Webb of Ashland, WI, Jill (Bob) Posey of Bootjack and Heidi (Chris) Stoumbos of Seatle, WA,

39 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and

sister Lyla Warn of Mayflower.

Proverbs 31: 28-31- Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: "Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all." Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.

A funeral service will be held for Esther at 11:00am at the Laurium Apostolic Lutheran Church on Thursday May 14, 2015 with Pastor Arvo Onermaa to officiate.

A visitation will take place on Wednesday May 13, 2015 at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home from 5:00 pm untll 8:00 pm; and also one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
