Obituary for Marjorie Lenore Tinetti

Marjorie Lenore Tinetti was born in Calumet, Michigan on May 11, 1924, the youngest of the eight surviving children of Louis and Rose Tinetti who had immigrated to the Copper Country in the early 1900’s. She was predeceased by her siblings Mary, Frank and Peter Tinetti, Ann Lucchesi, Laura Dimmer, and Edith Jenich. She is survived by her brother Arthur Tinetti. Marjorie grew up in Laurium and graduated in 1942 from Calumet High School. She was a welcome helper for her sister in running the household. Along with Mary and Edith, she enjoyed spending time in the summers with other siblings at Eagle Harbor where her brothers Frank and Arthur and sister Laura often vacationed.

After Mary’s death, Marjorie moved to the senior apartments on Park Avenue in Calumet where she made many friends and a new life for herself. Marjorie was known for her friendliness and for her great interest in walking. She walked for miles every day in and around Calumet and Laurium. She loved a good meal, and enjoyed the outings provided by the Little Brothers of Hancock. She also loved music, and often walked over to Daniel Park in Laurium for the summer concerts, or to events at the Armory.

After suffering a stroke, she moved to the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in 2014. Although she longed to return to her apartment and friends in Calumet, she seemed to appreciate the fine care given to her by the staff. She died the morning of Friday, October 23, 2015. She is an example of someone who with the help of others, was able to rise above mental illness to follow her own interests. She will be remembered by those who loved and cared about her. She is survived by her brother Arthur, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Private services will be held with Deacon Art Stancher to officiate.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be sent to Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly at 527 Hancock St, Hancock, MI 49930.
