Obituary for Sharon Marcel Arend (Siver)

Sharon Marcel Arend died quietly at home among family in the early hours of November 13, 2015 following a lengthy illness. She was 67.
Sharon was born on November 8, 1948 in Muskegon, MI to Marjorie and Glen Siver. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Speech Therapy from Northern Michigan University in 1976 and continued on to earn a Master’s Degree in Education in 1985, also from Northern Michigan University. Sharon married Philippe Arend in 1999, and lived with her husband on the Lake Superior shoreline in Keweenaw County, MI. She retired from her position as Director of Special Education for the Copper Country Intermediate School District in 2007. Following her retirement, Sharon and Philippe traveled extensively in Europe and North America and frequently shared good food, wine and conversation with close friends.
Sharon enjoyed a long and successful career in special education. She was an avid Nordic skier and outdoor enthusiast. Her interests included cooking, gardening and collecting art.
Sharon is survived by her husband Philippe; her daughter Samantha Ex of Minneapolis, MN; her son and daughter in law Seth and Lindsay Ex of Laporte, CO; her stepson and daughter in law Adam and Ollia Arend of Gladstone, ND; her stepson and daughter in law Brandon and Anjali Arend of Playa Del Rey, CA; her stepdaughter Summer Arend of Ann Arbor, MI; four grandchildren; and siblings April Siver, Chris Siver, Joe Parish, Linda Lamons, Mike Siver and Penny Siver.
Sharon was cremated in accordance with her wishes. Family and close friends have been invited to celebrate her memory at a private event at the Arend home. Sharon’s family requests that well-wishers please refrain from sending flowers.
