Obituary for Barbara Langdon

Barbara Langdon,100, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2016 at the Omega House after a short illness. Barbara was born on February 5, 1916, in Bessemer, Michigan. Her parents were John and Barbara (Olla) Terrish, immigrants from Hungary.
Barbara is remembered by several generations as the storekeeper at Langdon’s White L in Kearsarge, a grocery store owned and operated by Barbara and her husband William (Bill). She always gave a piece of candy to a shopper’s child and served her customers with a smile and happy comments. In 1933 to 1936, she was a seamstress in the WPA, Works Progress Administration. This was part of President Roosevelt’s stimulation package to fight the Great Depression, which is only a history lesson to most of us. This is where she met her husband Bill which led to dancing at the Electric Park, marriage in 1936 and a family.
Barbara will always be remembered by her family as the Light of our lives. Barbara was a woman of strong faith. She lived as a shining example and was a lamp to our feet and a light to our paths. She was always optimistic, caring, generous, kind and loving and had a delightful sense of humor. She was always helping someone, including family, friends and strangers. She sacrificed herself for others without thinking twice. Her motto was, “Obedience to our Heavenly Father starts with our loving service to others.” Our Light went out today, but her beautiful nature will continue because of what she taught us.
Barbara was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Bill in 1989; her parents; Bill’s parents, William and Ellen Langdon; her brothers, John and Joseph Terrish; her sisters, Mary, Kate and Martha; her son Bruce Langdon and his wife Carolyn; her grandson, Billie Langdon; and her husband’s family, sisters Edna (Clifford) Sibilsky and Hilda (Roy) Damerall;
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Barbara Herveat (Paul) Horton; her sons, William (Gale) Langdon and Joseph (Kate) Langdon; 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and one great, great granddaughter; and a special friend, Shirley Lassila.
In lieu of flowers, please address your offerings of condolence to a charity of your choice in her name.
There will be a visitation to celebrate Barbara’s life from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, August 8, 2016 at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet.
