Obituary for Ruth Eleanore Tervo (Erickson)

Ruth Tervo, 99, passed away on August 9, 2016 at The Pavilions in Traverse City.

Ruth was born to Sakris and Mary (Koskela) Erickson on September 3, 1917 in Ahmeek, Michigan.

She attended school in Ahmeek, Michigan where she finished the eighth grade.
Ruth worked at the Burroughs Corp for 12 years and then for the Ferry Morse Seed Company in Detroit. She also worked as a seamstress and with children in the Traverse City School District.

On July 5, 1952, Ruth married Reuben Tervo.

Ruth was very proud of her Finnish heritage and she enjoyed making Finnish specialties for her friends and family, especially pasties. She had a joyful sense of humor and she loved children. She was a giving person and always thought of others before herself.

Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, Reuben, her parents and her siblings, Viola Koski, Arthur Erickson, Reuben Erickson and Ellen Kitti.

She is survived by her granddaughter, Mary (Lee) Clark, and their daughters Ellie, Eva and Jada; her nieces, Margie (Doug) Johnson of Fenton, Sandy (Pat) Wright of Roswell, Georgia, Anita Erickson of Grand Rapids, Maryellen (Jack) Abell of Youngstown, OH, Susan (Gary) Guy of Kalkaska, Jeanne (Bill) Paulson of Arizona; her nephew David Erickson of Oregon; her great nephew, Kevin (Kathy) Heikkila and great niece, Sharon Heikkila of Traverse City and several other great nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held ‪on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Interlochen, MI with Pastor Jason Bauer officiating.

Burial will be held at the Lake View Cemetery in Calumet.
