Obituary for George Oliver Russell Isola

George Oliver Russell Isola, 79, a resident of Calumet passed away on Monday, February 27, 2017 at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Laurium.

He was born on March 5, 1937 at home in Woodland Location to George and Alina (Rantanen) Isola.

He attended Calumet High School and graduated with the Class of 1956.

Following graduating from high school, George went on to Michigan Technological University where he graduated with a diploma in Surveying.

In July 19, 1959, he was united in marriage to Diane Allen in Calumet.

George worked for several companies in the area doing surveyor work and drafting. He retired from UP Engineers and Architects in 2000.

George was an avid sports fan! His favorite teams were the Detroit Red Wings, Detroit Tigers, and the Detroit Lions.

He had a passion for hockey. George played hockey his entire life, and played as a goalie for the Calumet Wolverines. He was an athlete up until the very end.

He was a softball fan, playing in the Slow Pitch league, and he was an umpire for the Twilight League.

He enjoyed the outdoors; he was an avid hunter and fisherman.

George is preceded in death by his sister, Delores, and by his parents, George W. and Alina Isola.
Surviving are: Loving wife of 57 years: Diane Isola of Calumet

Sons: George (Ruth) Isola of Ishpeming Darrell Isola of Washington

Daughters: Jana Isola of Calumet Julie Isola of Calumet

5 grandchildren: Matthew, Nathan, Samantha, John and Alicia

4 great grandchildren: Darleen, John, Aubree & Lorna Rae

1 sister: Darlene Isola of L’anse

And numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services for George will be held on Monday, March 6, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet. Friends may call at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet on Monday, March 6, 2017 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
