Obituary for Arthur A. Lasanen

Arthur A. Lasanen, 84, a resident of Calumet passed away on Monday, April 8, 2019 at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock.

He was born on August 23, 1934 in Laurium to Arthur and Saima (Erkkila) Lasanen.

He attended the Lake Linden Hubbell School, and graduated with the Class of 1952.

Arthur worked as a commercial fisherman for most of his life. He helped his father with the business in his younger years, and took it over in 1961 when his father retired. Arthur retired from commercial fishing in 1981 after 30 years. He then went on to work at Stillwaters Assisted Living in the maintenance department.

He enjoyed hunting, trapping and fishing. He lived in Big Traverse for the majority of his life, moving to Calumet two years ago.

On September 9, 1961 he was united in marriage to Joan Olson at the Laurium Apostolic Lutheran Church.

He was a member of the Laurium Shining Light Church where he served on the board.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Saima Lasanen, and his grandson, Lucas Easterling.

He is survived by:
His wife of 57 years, Joan of Hancock
His Daughters: Pauline (Ross) Easterling of Copper City
Jana Sunnarborg of Germany

His grandchildren: Mackenzie Sunnarborg, Jantzen Sunnarborg, Christian Sunnarborg, Kendra (Tomas) Kotila, Seth (Brenda) Harjala, and Garett (Claire) Easterling

His great grandchildren: Milo Harjala and Danger Kotila

His sister: Betty Rosin of Lavern, Minnesota

And several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends may call at the Laurium Shining Light Church on Monday, April 15, 2019 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at the Laurium Shining Light Church on Monday, April 15, 2019 at 3:00 pm with Pastor Jay Weidner to officiate.

Burial will take place in the spring at the Lake View Cemetery.
