Melvin “Tem” Ahonen
Fulton Location- Melvin “Tem” Ahonen, 85, of Fulton Location, died suddenly on October 17, 2014 after a brief stay at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility.
He was born on December 8, 1928 to Gust and Maria Ahonen. He was the only survivor of 11 children. He attended school in the area and moved to Detroit, where he married Virginia Paulson on December 6, 1952.
As a youngster, he attended the Apostolic Lutheran Church in Fulton, was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Farmington Hills, and was a current member of Bethany Lutheran Church of Mohawk.
He is survived by: his wife-Virginia; daughters-Joan Ahonen of Farmington Hills and Karen (Jon) Dahlstrom of Highland, MI; his son Thomas preceded him in death in 2005. He was the proud grandfather of Jennifer, Michael, Nicole (Brian), Nicholas, Karl, and Joseph, who is serving in the US Marine Corp. He was the great-grandfather of Isabella, Adrianna, Anthony, Maribelle, and Aidric of whom he was also proud. He had many nieces and nephews that he thought so much of, and his dear sisters-in-law-Nancy and Eva.
He was a proud member of the Painters Union #213 for 35 years. He enjoyed golfing with his friends at the Keweenaw mountain Lodge and bowling in the Senior League at Miller’s Recreation with his wife and friends twice a week. He always looked forward to the deer hunting season in the U.P. with friends and family from the Detroit area.
The funeral service is planned for 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 25, at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet with Pastor Tim Johnston to officiate. Visitation will be for an hour before the service. Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Ahmeek.
