Rosalie Karvonen, 76, a resident of Allouez, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday February 6, 2015 at the Omega House.
She was born on May 1, 1938 to Ted and Minerva (Benson) Rogers in Ahmeek, Michigan.
She was a graduate of the Calumet High School class of 1956. Three years after graduating she married the love of her life, Glenn Karvonen on September 5, 1959 at the Laurium Apostolic Lutheran Church. Glenn preceded her in death on October 2, 2002.
Rosalie worked in the offices at Calumet Electronics for 22 years.
She loved gardening, cooking, baking, spending time with her family, and her Dog Cocoa. She also loved spending time with her favorite grandson, James.
She was a member of the Mohawk United Methodist Church.
Rosalie loved living in Keweenaw County having been raised by her parents in Eagle River for most of her childhood and lived with her family in Allouez until her death. She was active in her community and served several terms as a Keweenaw County Commissioner and also served as a board member on the Keweenaw County Housing Commission.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister Donna (Rogers) Peck.
She is survived by: 3 Sons: Eric Karvonen of Allouez Ted (Leslie) Karvonen of Calumet and John (Donna) Karvonen of Allouez
Daughter: Ann (Roger) Harris of Allouez Grandson: James Richards of Laurium
Brother: Donald (Darlene) Rogers of Howell, Michigan
Brother-in-law Reynold Peck of Hancock
And her beloved dog Cocoa
And numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins
Visitation will be held at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet on Tuesday February 10, 2015 from 4:00 pm to 6:00pm. Funeral services will be held at 6:00 pm on Tuesday with Pastor Bob White to officiate.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy memorials may be given to the Omega House 2211 Maureen Lane Houghton, Michigan 49931.
