Obituary for Cahterine Zubiena

Catherine Zubiena, 71, a resident of Laurium passed away on Monday, April 17, 2006 at Marquette General Health System following a brief illness.

She was born on October 9, 1934 in Calumet, a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Rogina) Bonenfant.

She attended Calumet Schools and graduated from Calumet High School with the class of 1952.

On October 3, 1959 she married James Zubiena at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Calumet.

Cathy worked for several local businesses including J.J. Newberry, Public Chevrolet and most recently the Calumet Township Office. She also did the bookkeeping for the family business, Doc=s Standard gas station, in Laurium.

Cathy enjoyed sewing, knitting, baking and spending time with her family and friends. She took great pride in her home and her yard and happily took care of both.

She was an active member of the Keweenaw Memorial Women=s Auxiliary, St. Paul the Apostle Church, and the St. Paul the Apostle Altar Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Louis Bonenfant.

Surviving are: Her husband of 46 years, James Zubiena;

two sons John Zubiena of Westmont, IL
Daniel (Kristin) Zubiena of Laurium

two brothers Joseph (Eleanor) Bonenfant of Calumet
Clarence (Carol Sue) Bonenfant of Dearborn, MI

two sisters Claire (Jack) Johnson of Gary, IN
Mary Augustine of Northville, MI

numerous nieces, nephews and friends, including special friend Gracia Bracco of Calumet.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 20, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Calumet, with Fr. Sebastian Ettolil to officiate.

At Catherine=s request there will be no public visitation, friends may leave condolences for the family at The Erickson Crowley Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery in Calumet.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family asks memorials be made to the Keweenaw Memorial Women=s Auxiliary or to the St. Paul the Apostle Church Capital Campaign Fund.
