Virginia C. Thurner, of Laurium, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday October 29, 2013 after a short illness. She was born on July 17, 1926 in Allouez Twp. a daughter of the late Charles & Odivine Goulette. Preceding her in death was an infant daughter- Gail Ann; Brother- Joseph (Rose) Goulette; Brother-Charles; Sister- Arzelia (Wallace) Olkkonen; Sister- Theresa (Fred) Zerbst Virginia served as a beloved Nurses Aide of the Calumet Public Hospital (now Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital) for 25 years. After retirement she found the love of her life – George R. Thurner of Laurium, and had a happy fulfilled 24 years of marriage. Surviving are: her husband, George; Children – Virginia K. Miracle of Milwaukee, WI; David L. (Gail) Plute of New Allouez, Cheryl A. Plute of Laurium; Donna M. (Mark) Simmons of Lee’s Summit, MO; 6 grandchildren – Paul (Darcy) Alatalo of Muskego, WI; Julie (Tim) Wessel of Milwaukee, WI; Lori A. Colburn of Oshkosh, WI; & Stacie R. (Frank) Murray of Fond du Lac, WI; Sister- Mary B. (Ray) Harju of Houghton; numerous loved great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Charles R. (Ann) Thurner of Mechanicsburg, PA; numerous nieces, nephews & cousins.
In Lieu of other expressions of sympathy, Virginia's wish was that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital, Aspirus Hospice Group, or the charity of their choice.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday November 2, 2013 at 11:00 am in the Sacred Heart Church with Fr. Abraham Mupparathara to officiate.
Visitation for Virginia will be held at Erickson-Crowley-Peterson Funeral Home on Friday November 1, 2013 from 3-5 pm and 7-9 pm as well as on Saturday from 10-11 am at Sacred Heart Church. A Prayer Service will be held on Friday November 1, 2013 at 8:45 pm.
Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
