George Tarnowski, 89, of Florida Location passed away Monday December 22, 2014 at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Laurium.
He was born on July 14, 1925 in Detroit to his parents, Teofil and Josephine (Smakowska) Tarnowski. He attended Chadsey High School in Detroit and graduated in 1943.
He was a veteran having served in both the U.S. Navy during WW II followed by a tour in the U.S. Coast Guard sailing the Great Lakes on the Icebreaker Mackinaw for 2 years.
George worked for a short while for the Phone Company, and for for Chrysler in Detroit. And spent the following 30 years working as security for the City of Detroit, retiring in 1984. In August of 1984 he moved to Florida Location.
On February 15, 1969 he married his wife Phyllis Kauppila in Calumet.
He enjoyed cooking, and loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and gardening.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Bernice Jacques and Regina Bloch, and brother Victor.

Daughter; Ann (Darrel) Bimberg of Watertown, Minnesota and their children Sonja, Corey and Logan
Also surviving are a niece, three nephews and many other relatives and friends
A visitation will be on Friday December 26, 2014 from 4 to 8 at Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 in the First Apostolic Lutheran Church in Calumet with Pastor Dave Taivalkoski to officiate.
